Mayhem is an extreme metal band from Norway and can be considered one of the greatest pioneers in the Black Metal genre. The band is known worldwide for its controversial and challenging musical style, stage performances, and the dark history behind its story.

One of the most controversial events was the murder of their guitarist, as well as using a photo of a band member's suicide as the album cover. These actions have given Mayhem an extremely controversial status within the black metal scene. This twisted and evil approach is reflected in their music and philosophy, and has had a profound impact on the development and image of black metal, making Mayhem one of the most iconic bands in the genre, often regarded as a textbook example.
